Arabic vocabulary
How to say “were concealed” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَدُثِرَتْ مَعَاهِدُهُ عِنْدَهُمْ فَلَيْسُوا يَعْمُرُونَهَا،
And his sanctuaries were concealed from them, so they do not inhabit them.
وَدُثِرَتْ — and were concealed. Here a connecting 'wa-' is fused to a passive past verb: the sanctuaries receive the action, they were blotted out, rather than doing it. Arabic marks the passive by reshaping the verb's inner vowels instead of adding 'were', and the feminine '-at' ending agrees with the plural-of-things subject that follows.
