Arabic vocabulary
How to say “woe” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فتبا لك سائر الدهر ؛
Then woe to you for all eternity;
فَتَبًّا — then woe. This is the bound fa- 'then, so' attached to a curse-word in the object ending, 'woe, ruin'. The fa- links the malediction to the prior condition, and the noun's object ending is the fixed shape Arabic uses for such exclamatory curses, which have no spoken verb behind them.
