How to say “woman” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى الْمَرْأَةِ فَسَأَلَهَا
So he sent to the woman and asked her.
الْمَرْأَة — the woman. The al- marks this as the definite, specific woman, the one already in the story. Following the preposition, it takes the post-preposition case, shown by the short vowel on its end. She is the person the king sent to.
