How to say “woman called so-and-so” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
قَالُوا أَهْدَاهُ لَكَ فُلَانٌ أَوْ فُلَانَةٌ
They said, "Either a man called so-and-so gave it to you, or a woman called so-and-so gave it to you."
فُلاَنَةُ — a woman called so-and-so. The feminine placeholder name for an unnamed woman, the alternative subject after 'or', in the subject form as the doer of an equally-possible gift. Its feminine ending contrasts it with the masculine placeholder before 'or'. It completes the 'either a man or a woman' choice.
