How to say “would have fed him” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَقَالُوا ﴿أَنْ نُطْعِمَ مَن لَوْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَأَطْعَمَهُ﴾
And they said, "Should we feed one whom, if God had willed, He would have fed?"
لَأَطْعَمَهُ — would have fed him. This bundles a result-marking prefix, 'then/surely', with a past verb and a tail -hu, 'him', as object, 'would have fed him'. The prefix flags the apodosis of the counterfactual and the suffix names who would have been fed, closing their rhetorical point.
