Arabic vocabulary
How to say “yearning” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَوَجَدْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَجَدًّا شَدِيدًا،
I felt an intense yearning for him,
وَجَدًّا — and yearning. A joining wa- ('and') on an indefinite noun whose -an ending marks it as the direct object of the feeling-verb, the thing felt. That accusative ending is the signal that this word is what was experienced, not the experiencer. So its shape flags its role as the content of the emotion.
