How to say “a jest” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
أَمْزَحُ فِيهِ مَزْحَ أَهْلِ الْفَضْلِ وَالْمُزْحُ أَحْيَانًا جَلَاءُ الْعَقْلِ
I joke in it as people of merit do, and jesting sometimes clears the mind.
مَزْحَ — a jest. A noun built from a verb (an action-as-noun, 'a jesting') serving as the inner object of the verb before it, the kind that echoes the verb's own meaning to color how it is done. It also heads an ownership pairing with the next word, 'the jesting of...'.
