How to say “virtue” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
نطقت بفضله الْآيَات وَالْأَخْبَار
The verses and reports spoke of his virtue.
بِفَضْلِهِ — by his virtue. 'Bi-' (of / about) fused with 'merit / excellence' plus '-hi' (his) attached, genitive — 'of his merit'. The pairing 'spoke + bi-' means spoke about; the suffix points to Abu Bakr.
From: Abu Bakr: First Champion of Islam →أَمْزَحُ فِيهِ مَزْحَ أَهْلِ الْفَضْلِ وَالْمُزْحُ أَحْيَانًا جَلَاءُ الْعَقْلِ
I joke in it as people of merit do, and jesting sometimes clears the mind.
الْفَضْلِ — merit. The al- makes this definite, 'the' merit, and it closes the 'people of...' pairing as its owner. Sitting in the owned-by slot, it carries the genitive 'of' ending, locking the two words into 'people of merit'.
