How to say “a land” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
إِنْطَلِقْ إِلَى أَرْضٍ كَذَا وَكَذَا
Set out for such-and-such a land.
أرضِ — a land. This is an indefinite noun in the 'of...' (genitive) shape required by the preposition 'ila' before it. Its indefinite ending leaves the place unspecified, 'a (certain) land', which the vague pointing words that follow then characterize as 'such-and-such'.
From: The Joy of Repentance →وَقَدْ أَضَلَّهُ فِي أَرْضٍ فَلَاةٍ
And he had led him astray in a desolate land.
أَرْضٍ — a land. This noun is indefinite, shown by the doubled 'n' sound on its tail, and stands in the genitive as the object of the preceding 'in'. It introduces an unspecified setting that the following describing word then characterizes.
