Arabic vocabulary
How to say “a piece” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَقَطَعَتْ أَسْمَاءُ بِنْتُ أَبِي بَكْرِ قِطْعَةً مِنْ نِطَاقِهَا،
So Asma bint Abi Bakr cut off a piece from her belt.
قِطْعَةً — a piece. An indefinite noun 'a piece', the object of 'cut', so it carries the -an accusative that marks what the cutting fell on. Left indefinite, it is some portion she removed; the 'from' phrase after it tells where she took it.
