Arabic vocabulary
How to say “a thousand” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَقَلْبُ الْمُؤْمِنِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ الْبَيْتِ الْمَعْمُورِ أَكْثَرُ مِنْ أَلْفِ أَلْفٍ مَرَّةٍ
And the believer's heart is better than the Frequented House by more than a thousand thousand times.
أَلْفٍ — a thousand. The numeral 'thousand' repeated and stacked as the owner of the first, so the pairing multiplies into 'a thousand thousand' (a million). The doubling is a rhetorical way to pile up the figure into a vast, almost uncountable amount.
