How to say “Ali” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
من حَدِيث عَليّ بن أبي طَالب وَأبي سعيد الْخُدْرِيّ عَن النَّبِي
From the hadith of Ali ibn Abi Talib and Abu Sa'id al-Khudri about the Prophet.
عَلِيٍّ — Ali. This is a personal name working as the owner closing the pairing, 'of Ali', and it takes the genitive of the possessive relationship. Even a proper name carries this 'of' ending, naming whose hadith it is.
From: Sincerity and Hypocrisy →وَهَؤُلَاء أَصْحَاب رَسُول الله مَعَ أَمِير الْمُؤمنِينَ عَليّ بن أبي طَالب بِأَمْر النَّبِي
And these are the companions of the Messenger of Allah, with the Commander of the Faithful, Ali ibn Abi Talib, by the command of the Prophet.
عَلِيِّ — Ali. This is a personal name standing in apposition to the title before it, naming the same commander, and so it shares the genitive case. It identifies Ali as the leader just titled.
