Arabic vocabulary
How to say “almost” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
لا يَكَادُ الْمُتَقَدُّ الْخَاطِرُ يَحِلُّهَا عِدَّةً،
The eager mind can hardly separate it into distinct units.
يَكَادُ — is almost. A verb of approximation meaning 'is on the point of'. With the preceding negation it forms 'can hardly', expressing that the action barely happens. It expects a following verb naming what is scarcely achieved, building the 'hardly manages to' construction.
