Arabic vocabulary
How to say “appearance” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وكان له سمت يعرفه به من لم يكن رآه
And he had a demeanor by which those who had never seen him recognized him.
سَمْتٌ — demeanor. This noun is the possessed thing in the 'he had X' construction, so it appears in the subject form as the item that 'was to him'. Its bare ending marks it indefinite, 'a bearing/manner'.
