How to say “be astonished” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
إِنْ عَلِمْوا بِإِسْلاَمِي قَبْلَ أَنْ تَسْأَلَهُمْ بَهَتُونِي عِنْدَكَ،
If they had known of my Islam before you asked them, they would have been astonished in your presence.
بَهَتُونِي — they would have been astonished. A past verb with its 'they' subject built in, here standing as the result-half answering the earlier 'if'. It reports what would have followed, with the plural doers folded into the word.
