Arabic vocabulary
How to say “be heard” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَقُلْ يُسْمَعْ، وَسَلْ تُعْطَهْ، وَاِشْفَعْ تُشَفَّعْ
Say, and it will be heard; ask, and you will be given; intercede, and you will be granted intercession.
يُسْمَعْ — it will be heard. A passive verb, 'it is heard', with the doer unstated, and its ending sits in the cut-short jussive shape because it is the promised result of the preceding command, 'say, and it will be heard'. A command followed by such a result-verb works like 'if you say, it gets heard'. Arabic marks the passive by inner vowels, not a helper word.
