How to say “befall” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَكِنَّ لَامَهُ لِأَجَلِ الْمُصِيبَةِ الَّتِي لَحِقَتْهُمْ بِالْخَطِيَّةِ
But he reproached him for the calamity that had befallen them because of the sin.
لَحِقَتْهُمْ — befell them. A past-tense verb with a 'them' tag attached as its object — the calamity 'reached them'. The verb also wears a feminine marker agreeing with its hidden subject, the calamity, while the suffix supplies the people it struck.
