How to say “belly” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَإِنْ كُنْتُ لَأَشُدُّ الْحَجَرَ عَلَى بَطْنِي مِنَ الْجُوعِ،
And if I were to press a stone against my belly from hunger,
بَطْنِي — my belly. A body-part noun carrying the possessive 'my' at its end, so one word equals 'my belly'. It is governed by the 'against' before it and sits in the form a preposition requires. The attached pronoun is how Arabic shows ownership without a separate word like English 'my'.
