Arabic vocabulary
How to say “bitterness” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
لِأَنَّ حَلَاوَةَ اللَّذَّاتِ اِسْتَحَالَتْ حَنْظَلًا؛
Because the sweetness of pleasures has turned into bitterness.
حَنْظَلًا — bitterness. An indefinite noun naming what the sweetness changed INTO (a bitter colocynth, used here for bitterness), in the accusative because the change-verb marks its result that way. The accusative is the signal that it is the end-state of the transformation.
