Arabic vocabulary
How to say “boy” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
فَتَوَضَّأَ وَصَلَّى ثُمَّ أَتَى الْغُلَامَ فَقَالَ مَنْ أَبُوكَ يَا غُلَامُ
He performed ablution and prayed, then he went to the boy and said, "Who is your father, O boy?"
الْغُلَامَ — the boy. The boy as the goal of his approach. The al- on the front makes him 'the' particular boy already in view, and the ending marks him as the thing the verb reaches -- the object of 'went to'.
From: Those Who Spoke in the Cradle →اِشْقِ الْغُلَامَ بَيْنَكُمَا
Cut the boy between you two.
الْغُلَام — the boy. The al- marks this as the definite, specific boy. It is the thing the command acts upon, the receiver of the cutting, so it takes the object case shown by the vowel on its end. It is the direct target handed to the imperative just before it.
