Arabic vocabulary
How to say “by anything” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
يَا بُنَيَّ مَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بِشَيْءٍ أَفْضَلُ مِنَ الْعَقْلِ
O my son, no one has worshipped God by anything better than the intellect.
بِشَيْء — by anything. The 'bi-' prefix here marks instrument or means: 'by means of', telling us the channel through which the worship happens. It forces the following 'thing' into the genitive and leaves it indefinite, so it spans 'by anything whatsoever'. This means-phrase is what the comparison 'better than the intellect' then ranks.
