How to say “called” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
دعِي إِلَى الْإِسْلَام فَمَا تلعثم وَلَا أَبى
He was called to Islam and he did not hesitate nor refuse.
دُعِيَ — he was called. A passive verb — the inner vowels make it 'was summoned', with no caller named. Arabic marks the passive by the vowel change; Abu Bakr was invited to Islam.
