Arabic vocabulary
How to say “children” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فلما حل الهدم بودي سارة منع الولدان يجوز،
When the ruin befell Sarah’s town, children were no longer allowed to pass.
الوِلْدَانُ — the children. This is the delayed subject of the passive verb, the ones who were forbidden, so it carries the subject ending despite following the verb. The 'the' makes it the specific children, and a passive in Arabic takes its receiver as the subject just as this does.
