Arabic vocabulary
How to say “deceived” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَيَا عُظْمَ الْمُصِيبَةِ عِنْدَمَا يَتَبَيَّنُ بَوَارِقَ أَمَانِيهِ خُلَّبًا،
And how great is the calamity when the dazzling flashes of his hopes become clear and he is deceived.
خُلَّبًا — deceived. An indefinite noun used to describe those flashes as 'a mirage / false lightning', the kind that promises rain but gives none. Its accusative ending marks it as the state the flashes are shown to be IN, sealing the image: his hopes were deceptive all along.
