Arabic vocabulary
How to say “his hopes” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَيَا عُظْمَ الْمُصِيبَةِ عِنْدَمَا يَتَبَيَّنُ بَوَارِقَ أَمَانِيهِ خُلَّبًا،
And how great is the calamity when the dazzling flashes of his hopes become clear and he is deceived.
أَمَانِيهِ — his hopes. A noun with -hu ('his') fused on as owner, completing the 'of' pair, 'the flashes of his hopes'. It is genitive as the owner in that chain, and the 'his' ties the empty hopes to the deluded figure. The pairing makes the gleams belong to his own wishful thinking.
