How to say “drink” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
قَالَ اِقْعُدْ فَاشْرَبْ
He said, "Sit down and drink."
فَاشْرَبْ — and drink. Begins with the connector 'so/and', then a command verb 'drink'; the connector links it to 'sit down' as the paired next order, read naturally as 'and drink'. A command verb already addresses 'you', so no subject pronoun is needed. The connector coordinates the two commands.
From: Generosity to the Poor →وَإِنْ شَرِبَ لَمْ يَقُلْ بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ فَاشْرَبْ مَعَهُ
And if he drinks without saying the name of God, then drink with him.
فَاشْرَبْ — then drink. The 'fa-' opens the result of the condition ('then'), and the verb is a command form 'drink!'. The command shape, marked by its clipped ending and no subject prefix, issues the instruction for that case.
