How to say “ears” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فاعلم أن وعظه لا يتجاوز الأسماع،
Then know that his preaching does not go beyond the ears,
الْأَسْمَاعَ — the ears. This is the object of 'pass beyond', in the accusative, and it is a broken plural of the word for 'hearing' — reshaped internally, not just suffixed. 'Not passing the ears' is the metaphor: the sermon reaches hearing but goes no deeper.
