وربما أدى الأمر بالشاعر إلى التجاوز إلى الكفر،
And perhaps it leads the poet to go so far as to disbelief,
التَّجَاوُزِ — excess. Genitive after 'to', this is a Form VI verbal noun ('overstepping, going too far') — the first stage of the bad outcome. The point: the affair drags him into excess, and beyond. Its ending follows from the preposition.
