Arabic vocabulary
How to say “false” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
وَشَنُّوا عَلَيْهَا غَارَاتِ التَّأْوِيلَاتِ الْبَاطِلَةِ،
And they launched raids of false interpretations against it.
الْبَاطِلَةِ — the false. An adjective placed after its noun and agreeing with it in being definite, feminine and genitive, so it locks onto 'the interpretations' as the word it describes. Arabic puts descriptions after the noun and makes them echo its 'the' and its case, unlike the English order.
From: Ignoring God's Guidance →وَالْأَمَانِيِ الْبَاطِلَةِ وَالْغُرُورِ وَالتَسْوِيفِ بِالْعَمَلِ
False hopes, self-deception, and delaying action.
الْبَاطِلَةِ — false. This feminine adjective describes 'the hopes' before it, 'false'. It agrees with that plural noun in definiteness and case, so the two read together as 'the false hopes', the adjective narrowing which hopes are meant.
