How to say “folly” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَقَدْ ذَكَرْنَا أَنَّ الحُمْقَ فَسَادٌ فِي الْعَقْلَيْنِ أَوْ فِي الذِّهْنِ،
We have mentioned that folly is a corruption in the two intellects or in the mind,
الحُمْقَ — folly. This is the noun that the preceding 'that' particle pulls into the accusative as its subject; the al- on it makes it definite, so the clause reads 'that the folly...'. It is an abstract noun naming a trait, and it waits for the predicate that follows to complete the thought. Its accusative ending is a direct grammatical effect of the particle before it.
