وَكُلُّ مَا أَحَبَّ لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ فَمَحَبَّتُهُ فَاسِدَةٌ
And whatever one loves for reasons other than God, that love is corrupt.
لِغَيْرِ — for other than. The li- here marks the reason or aim of the loving and governs the noun 'other-than' into the genitive. That noun sets up exclusion, 'for the sake of something other than'. Together they name love directed at any aim besides the one to come.
