Arabic vocabulary
How to say “fortified” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وكم هدم قصرًا مشيدًا وكم زلزل أبياتا،
And how many fortified castles has He demolished, and how many homes has He shaken,
مُشَيَّدًا — fortified. A passive-participle describing word meaning 'towering / well-built', qualifying the castle and matching it in being indefinite and in the accusative case. Arabic puts the describing word after the noun and harmonizes the endings, so the agreement ties the trait to the castle.
