How to say “free” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فقال الوالي اذهب فأنت حرّ فيما بينك وبينه
The governor said: Go, you are free concerning what is between you and him.
حُرٌّ — free. This is 'free', the predicate describing 'you', joined with no verb 'are', the way Arabic links a subject to a one-word description. It is indefinite and takes the nominative, the default for such a predicate. It declares the man cleared of the matter.
