How to say “grow tender” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَلَمَّا تَرَقَّوا فَعَاقُوا وَالْعُقُوقُ مِنَ الْذُّنُوبِ الْكِبَارِ،
When they grew tender, they were ungrateful, and ingratitude is among the major sins,
تَرَقَّوا — they grew tender. A past-tense verb whose ending -u marks a third-person 'they' as the doers — the children, now grown. Arabic carries the plural subject inside this final vowel rather than in a separate word. It is the action governed by the 'when' clause: when they grew up.
