فَٱِرْتَحَلْنَا بَعْدَ مَا مَالَتِ اَلْشَّمْسُ،
So we set out after the sun had inclined.
مَالَتِ — had inclined. A past-tense verb in its feminine shape, its final '-at' marking that the doer is feminine to agree with the sun named after it. Arabic makes the verb echo the gender of its subject. It names the sun's sinking that the 'after' phrase pins down.
