How to say “he was forgiven” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَوَجَدُوهُ إِلَى هَذِهِ أَقْرَبَ بِشِبْرٍ فَغُفِرَ لَهُ
They found him closer to this one by a finger's breadth, and he was forgiven.
فَغُفِرَ — he was forgiven. This is a passive past verb: the man receives the action, he was forgiven, rather than doing it. Arabic marks the passive by reshaping the verb's inner vowels instead of adding a helper word like 'was', and the leading 'fa-' presents the forgiveness as the consequence of being nearer.
