Arabic vocabulary
أَنْفُس is how you say “his self” in Arabic. Hear it pronounced and see it used in a real example sentence from classical texts below.
فَإِنَّ كَمَالَ أَنْفُسِهِ بِتَلَوُّثٍ أَوْ قِيادَةٍ ،
If, however, his self is perfected by corruption or by leadership,
أَنْفُسِهِ — his self. This noun ends in the attached '-hi' (his), a pronoun glued on to mark the possessor, and it completes the 'of...' pairing started by the previous word: 'the perfection of his self'. The owner '-hi' also makes the whole pairing definite and reaches back to the man under discussion, not to any nearer noun.
