Arabic vocabulary
How to say “honor” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَالْذُّلُّ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ مِنَ الْعِزِّ
And humiliation is dearer to him than honor.
الْعِزِّ — honor. Made definite by 'al-' and held in the genitive by the comparative 'than' that governs it. It is the prized status that the clause says is, paradoxically, less dear to him. Its definiteness frames mighty honour as the recognised good being downranked.
