وَتَمَاسَكَا، فَرُبَّمَا كَانَ شَيْطَانُ الْإِنْسِ أَقْوَى مِنْهُ،
And they held on to each other, for perhaps the human devil was stronger than him.
الْإِنْسِ — the human. This definite noun completes the 'of' pairing with 'devil' before it: 'the devil of humankind', a human tempter. As the owned half it takes the genitive ending, its al- marking the class of people. The bare juxtaposition carries the 'of'.
