وَإِذَا لَقِيتُمُ النَّاسَ لَقِيتُمُوهُمْ مُخْبِتِينَ،
And when you met people, you met them humbly,
مُخْبِتِينَ — humbly. A plural describing word, 'humble / lowly', in the form Arabic uses for a circumstantial description, telling the state you were in while meeting them. Its special ending marks 'how' the action was done, where English adds '-ly' or 'while being'.
