How to say “I respond to you” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
قَالَ يَا أَبَا هِرٍّ قُلْتُ لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ
He said, "O Aba Hirr." I replied, "I respond to you, O Messenger of God."
لَبَّيْكَ — I respond to you. The fixed devotional reply 'at your service / I respond to you', frozen as one expression with 'you' attached at the end. Its set, doubled shape is an old idiom taken whole. Learners meet it as a single ready-made unit.
