Arabic vocabulary
How to say “I thought” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ يَكْرَهُ أَنْ يَمْشِيَ مَعَهُ أَحَدٌ ـ قَالَ ـ
So I thought that he disliked anyone walking with him, he said.
فَظَنَنْتُ — so I thought. The fa- in front is a connector giving a 'so/and so' result flavour, tying the speaker's thought to the scene just described. Onto the verb is fused the past-tense 'I' subject, so the word carries the link, the past act of supposing, and the speaker together.
