  And long ago I took pains for them, so indeed I do ward them off from its pleasures and its comforts.

  لَأَذُودُهُمْ — I do ward them off. This verb opens with an emphatic l- prefix that reinforces the certainty set up by the inna before it, and the verb is present first-person; tacked onto its end is -hum, the 'them' object.
