Arabic vocabulary
How to say “leadership” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَمُعْظَمُهَا مِنْ قِبَلِ طَلَبِهِمْ لِلرِّئَاسَةِ،
And most of it is from the part of their pursuit of leadership,
لِلرِّئَاسَةِ — for leadership,. The li- prefix is a preposition of aim or goal ('for/toward'), and it puts the noun after it into the genitive as the thing sought. Note that its 'l' merges in sound into the following noun's first letter, a 'sun letter', which is why the spoken form doubles that consonant; the phrase marks leadership as the target of the pursuit.
