Arabic vocabulary
غض is how you say “lower” in Arabic. Hear it pronounced and see it used in a real example sentence from classical texts below.
﴿قُلْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَغُضُّوا مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِمْ﴾، وَنَظَائِرُهُ
'Say to the believers to lower their gaze', and similar passages.
يَغُضُّوا — to lower. Present-tense verb with its usual final 'n' dropped, pushed into a shortened mood because it is the result of the command 'Say': 'so that they lower'. The trimmed ending links the lowering to the order, showing it as the intended consequence rather than a free-standing report.
