How to say “one who opposes” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَبَقِيَتْ مَرَارَةُ الأَسَى بِلَا مُقَاوِمٍ،
So the bitterness of grief remained, with no one to oppose it,
مُقَاوِمًا — one who opposes. An active participle read agentively ('one who opposes/a resister'), in the accusative as the noun negated in the 'with no...' phrase. It names the missing thing: there is no resister, so the bitterness goes unchecked.
