Arabic vocabulary
How to say “one who stands” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَمِنَ الْغَدِ حَتَّى قَامَ قَائِمُ الظَّهِيرَةِ،
And from the morning until the noon watchman stood up,
قَائِمُ — noon watchman. An agent-noun built from a verb, naming the one-who-stands as the doer of the 'stood up' before it, so it takes the subject ending. It heads an 'of' pairing with the time-word that follows, 'the stander of noon'. Such doer-nouns are formed on a fixed active pattern.
