How to say “people” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَإِنْ رَأَيْتُمُونَا هَزَمْنَا الْقَوْمَ وَأَوْطَأْنَاهُمْ
And if you see that we have defeated the people and humbled them.
الْقَوْمَ — the people. A noun 'the people', made definite by its built-in 'the' and standing as the ones defeated, so it takes the object ending of what the verb fell on. The definite marker treats them as the specific known enemy.
