How to say “portion” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
ليمتحن أيسكن إِلَيْهَا فَتكون حَظه
To test whether he finds contentment with them as his portion.
حَظَّهُ — his portion. 'Lot / share' with '-hu' (his) attached, the predicate of 'become', accusative ('-a') — 'his portion'. The danger: that the gifts become all he settles for.
From: Stages of the Seeker →مَبْخُوسٌ حَظُّهُ مِنَ الْمَعْقُولِ،
He is diminished; his share of reason is small.
حَظُّهُ — his share. A noun with -hu ('his') fused on as owner, so 'share' and 'his' are one word. It is the thing that is small, the subject of the clause that follows the participle. The 'his' ties the meagre share back to the person just called diminished.
