How to say “prolonged” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
وَطول الْهم وَالْغَم وضنك الْمَعيشَة وكسف البال
And prolonged anxiety, sorrow, harshness of living, and worry of the mind.
وَطُولُ — and prolonged. wa- = 'and'; tul means 'length, being prolonged', heading the next 'of…' word ('length of anxiety').
From: Returning to God →ولكن تصده عن الحق شهوات النفس، ووساوس الشيطان، ومجالسة الأشرار، وطول الأمل، وحب الدنيا
But desires of the self, whispers of Satan, keeping company with the wicked, long hopes, and love of the world divert it from the truth.
وَطُولُ — and long hopes. The wa- adds another item, and this is the first half of 'length of hope', a noun and another subject of 'divert', so it stands in the subject case. It owns the link with the noun after it and gives up its own 'the'.
